Public Art
ArtsWestchester’s vision for the 21st century is a Westchester where public art is fundamental to the urban landscape. To this end, we advocate for and help facilitate the creation of public works of art, and act as a resource for artists, developers or municipalities interested in pursuing such projects. Contact us to have an ArtsWestchester staff member discuss your proposed project.
Community Cultural Development. Many Westchester communities recognize the arts as a keystone of their revitalization and economic development efforts. ArtsWestchester serves as a partner to local and county government in these efforts. As a result, cities such as Peekskill, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers ask us for help in incorporating the arts into public works projects, such as park restorations and downtown streets.

Case study
Westchester County Airport. In 2007/2008 ArtsWestchester partnered with Westchester County Airport to commission a public art project for the rapidly growing transportation center. The initial project was designed to infuse color into the upstairs seating area, enlivening the space and making it more appealing to visitors and travelers. The artwork conceptualized and created by seasoned artist and long-standing Westchester resident, Mary Ann Lomonaco, consists of 45, stylized, bird-like pieces cascading across the grillwork, convey a sense of flight, movement and vibrance.
