The Complete Guide To The Arts In Westchester BETA

Free Arts Day

Free Arts Day named Best "Relief for Your Wallet" by Westchester Magazine.

Free Arts Day is a Westchester holiday season tradition. Each year, for one day only, arts lovers of all ages are welcomed by open doors at cultural sites throughout the county as arts organizations offer free admissions to their museums, arts centers and historical sites while hosting music and dance performances, storytelling performances, and workshops for every taste.

“Free Arts Day gives new residents an extra incentive to discover cultural sites and organizations that are in their backyard,” says ArtsWestchester Executive Director Janet T. Langsam. “It also encourages people to re-discover cultural venues that they have appreciated in the past, but haven’t visited lately and see what’s new. Visiting a world-class museum
or historic landmark, experiencing a live performance,
or admiring the work of an individual artist can impact
everyone in a positive way and make communities stronger.”

The Free Arts Day program was initiated in 2001 in response to the after-effects of 9/11. It offered free admission to museums, art workshops and live performances throughout Westchester in an effort to bring the community and family together and to “feel free to feel better” by enjoying cultural experiences.

FREE ARTS DAY 2009 was sponsored by Target, and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
