Arts Award 2013 Sponsor:

The Arts Awards recognize individuals and organizations whose vision, commitment, and leadership enrich Westchester, its communities, and its citizens through the arts.

2013 Winners:

Arts Patron: Judy Evnin – a dedicated leader and patron of visual and performing arts

Artist: Craig Schulman - a renowned Broadway performer and producer

Artist: Tony Vaccaro – a photographer of iconic WWII and celebrity images

Arts Organization: RiverArts – promoting arts and culture in the river communities

Community: Dr. Caroline Bauman – founder, Westchester Chamber Music Society

Community: Friends of North Castle Public Library – a cultural hub and originator of  The Armonk Outdoor Art Show

Community: Arc of Westchester - serving people with autism and other developmental disabilities

Education: Archbishop Stepinac High School Drama Club - a theatre program used as an educational tool

Sophia Abeles Education: Rosalie Sauerhaft - arts educator, Performing Arts Center, Purchase College

Categories

Arts Patron – A person who lives or works in Westchester County and has made a significant contribution to the arts through his/her extraordinary leadership, personal commitment, and philanthropic activities, thereby advancing artistic excellence and enriching the Westchester community, and has provided consistent support of the arts without direct financial compensation.

Artist – An artist who lives or works in Westchester County and whose achievements in his/her artistic discipline are nationally recognized, whose work has demonstrated a compelling and unique vision, and who has produced a significant body of work or record of performance that has had an impact on the cultural world and upon the general public.

Arts Organization – A Westchester County non-profit arts organization that has made an important contribution to the growth of Westchester’s cultural life over a significant period of time, and has had an impact beyond its immediate community.

Community – An artist, individual, group, organization or agency that has demonstrated extraordinary vision and leadership in using the arts to enhance community life, to increase access to cultural experiences, or to enrich the county’s cultural heritage. Candidates have a long-standing involvement in the arts rather than involvement in a one-time initiative.

Education – An artist, individual, group, school, district or organization that has through extraordinary vision and leadership, enriched arts education in Westchester.

In addition to bestowing awards in the designated categories, from time to time the Arts Award Committee may use its discretion to present additional awards.
