Hurricane Sandy: Through the Lens of Local Photographers
On View: March 22 – April 27
Opening Reception: March 21, 6 – 8:30pm [RSVP HERE]
In the hours and days after Superstorm Sandy, we emerged from our safe havens to assess the damage and make plans for recovery. We recorded what we saw with our cameras and came together as a community to help our neighbors.
In response to the tremendous stories of destruction and survival, ArtsWestchester asked the community to share photographs documenting Sandy’s wake. More than 50 photographers submitted hundreds of images for consideration. The result is a community-powered exhibition.
Many of the images put nature’s power on display. The stories of Hurricane Sandy are stories of endurance and survival, of community and kindness. The hundred-plus images by some 50 individuals are personal stories that speak to our collective experience of an historic storm.
The exhibition will also feature photos from The Journal News’ vast archives of images that document the havoc wreaked along the Hudson and in Rockland County.
