Art of Africa Program Sponsorship

Coming September 2011: Celebrating the Art of Africa, An ArtsWestchester Exhibition & Series of Live Performances
In collaboration with African art specialist and curator Joe Cobbinah, ArtsWestchester will present a fall celebration of West African culture through art and performance beginning Thursday September 15th through Sunday, September 25th.
About the Exhibition:
Dafina: Hidden Treasure will feature fine and rare pieces of African art from the celebrated Dafco Gallery. Among the many works on display will be sculpture, masks, royal furniture, bronze works and other ceremonial masterpieces from the ancient West African kingdoms. These traditional and contemporary works of art span from late 19th to the early and mid-20th centuries.
Planned Related African Programs:
ArtsWestchester Hosts African Dance and music for the community:
- September 16: A performance by renowned drummer Kofi Donkor and the Afro-Indigenous fusion-ensemble Sankofa at the exhibit opening.
- September 17: Master musicians Yacouba Sissoko (kora) and Famoro Dioubate (bala) present the Music of Mali in a full concert
