Charis is a unique vocal ensemble of 25-30 auditioned, amateur singers directed by well-known New York soprano Susanne Peck. Taking its name from the Greek word for grace, Chareis (“kah-ris) is known for fluid singing, exceptional musicianship, and warmth of sound. Based in Katonah, the group has attracted some of the finest amateur voices around Westchester County. Dennis Keene, director of New York City's acclaimed Voices of Ascension, has called Charis “the finest chorus in Westchester County.” Charis performs repertoire from Renaissance to Contemporary and takes particular interest in presenting American choral works.

Charis has produced two CD's. From Sorrow Free is a collection of American songs, from hymns of Colonial New England to settings of twentieth-century poetry. Hoping It Might Be So is a wonderful collection of Christmas music including works by Julie Dolphin, Susanne Peck, James Bassi, Elliot Levine, Johannes Somary, to name a few. Many of these works have never been recorded.
