I work in several media and on several pieces simultaneously. My academic background is contemporary through my BFA at Parsons School of Design and traditional through my studies at the Art Students League of New York where I am a Life Member. These two backgrounds work their way into my art and teaching. I believe that drawing is the basis for all visual thought. The nineteenth century style of academic drawing I learned is a fantastic starting point for teaching and student work. My contemporary training has prepared me for my more formal work and for more advanced teaching.
My most recent work has to do with the nature of circles and lines. I also work with thought processes and the accumulation of ideas as visual imagery. Most of my work is done on transparent or translucent surfaces which I find lend themselves to my ideas of depth and simultaneous imagery.
I believe that drawing is the basis for all visual thought. I love to teach academic drawing, the study of perspective, chiaroscuro, form, shape and composition, because I believe it gives students a starting point for any type of art work they may eventually want to do.
Over the past twenty years I have lived and worked overseas from Europe to Africa to Asia, and I bring my many experiences in the developing world and Europe to my art and my teaching.
