Lana Yu creates paintings with mixed media and recycled materials that explore the emotional content of her experiences and her relationship with others and the environment. Painting is an investigation of both the inner self and the physics of the natural world. She pulls out what she feels about someone, something or an experience she had while also exploring the way in which color, form and materials flow from the brain to the body and onto the canvas. The process becomes about movement, light, dark, action, reaction, and ultimately a search for order or understanding in what seems inextricable.
In addition to her studio practice she collaborates with the community where she lives. She brings the arts to everyday people in the form of interactions that are about the creative process and self-discovery.
She is currently working on ongoing interactive project that engages people to contemplate what matters. The project has brought together hundreds of people from all walks of life to share their thoughts via live events, email and the web. The goal is to complete a mural by the end of 2013 to be erected at 1049 Main St. in Peekskill. It will be painted by the community for the community. If you would like to come share your words and paint the mural contact the artist at 914-737-1141. Painting will being in Nov. 2013.
