Through June 10: Photo Exhibition Showcases Nature
The Vanda Gallery in New Rochelle presents Touch the Untouched: Wonders of Land and Sky through June 10. The exhibitionfeatures four artists – Babak Tafreshi, Ilir Rizag, Mark Jacobson and Jane L. Wals – who have used their photography as a way to look deeper into the natural world. Gallery hours: Tues.-Fri. 11-5pm & Sat. 12-4pm.
Through May 31: Exhibition Combines Chinese Paper Cutting & Portrait Drawing
Harrison Public Library presents Whispers of Paper by Milai Liang, an exhibition of portrait drawings of women and children. Each work was done in pencil and paper while adding the unique element of paper cutting. The portraits are a mix of colors and textures and reveal nuances of femininity and childhood recollections. Various times.
May 17 & 18: Ballet Excerpts from Peter and the Wolf & More
Westchester Ballet Company presents Peter and the Wolf & Other Excerpts, a ballet performance well-suited for children and families that is performed by the company’s youth dancers. There will be three excerpts from the classic story of Peter and the Wolf. A Q&A session will also provide the audience with insight on dance techniques and give the guests a behind-the-scenes look at how these dancers learn and perfect the program for the show. From 10:30-11:30am.
May 18 & 19: Social Justice Dance Suite in Peekskill
Studio Theater in Exile at Hudson Valley MOCA present There Is A Message In Our Movement, a social justice dance suite choreographed by Sharon Simmons-Wright. The suite was inspired by photographs by Ocean Morisset as well as drawings from the Arc of the Viral Universe journal installation on display at the theater by artist Carla Rae Johnson. The production uses movement as a way to delve deeper into the social justice messages that are conveyed in the works it is inspired by. May 18 at 7pm & May 19 at 3pm.
